Winning

September is the annual Clanfield Produce show, which we have been entering for the past 5 years. It's a big family affair and it means even more to us since my gramp passed away in 2011. He was the undisputed champion of the heaviest onion....we are talking the size of my head!

September is the annual Clanfield Produce show, which we have been entering for the past 5 years. It's a big family affair and it means even more to us since my gramp passed away in 2011. He was the undisputed champion of the heaviest onion....we are talking the size of my head!

Every year we enter a variety of produce and floral designs, hoping to win - with a little friendly family rivalry involved.

The 2013 show was another success for me having gained a few 1sts, 2nds and 3rds in previous years.

The biggest surprise is always that the entry you didn't think would do well - does, and the one you poured your heart and soul into - doesn't.

In the floral design section I won;

1st prize for my Mary Rose

2nd prize for Red, White & Blue

3rd prize for The Queens Coronation

2nd for my 7 single blooms

I also managed a 2nd prize for my blackcurrant jam - my first ever attempt, so I was super chuffed with that one.

My son also had a great show with a 3rd for his choc chip cookies, 1st for his Christmas card and a 1st for his floral art. ( I think floristry is in our genes).

There were prizes for my mum, and my aunts and uncles which meant for the 3rd year year running we won the family cup.

The only disappointment was that we didn't win the cup in honour of my Gramp and we had no heavy onions to continue his legacy......but there's always next year!
